Entry is free but availability is limited!
Book your entry here!

Conference aimed at:

• Pilots, Crew Members, Maintenance Technicians and other Civil Aviation stakeholders;
• Doctors, Pharmacists, Clinical Analysis Technicians and other health professionals;
• Aeronautical Engineers, Chemical Engineers and Toxicologists;
• Occupational Safety and Health Technicians;
• State Authorities and Agencies related to Civil Aviation, Health and Working Conditions.

Raising awareness among the technical and scientific community, as well as the general public, about the CAQ problem. Identification of causes, consequences and mitigations.

Specific objectives:

• Global awareness of the importance of the topic.
• Identification of causes. Technical framing in terms of aircraft manufacturing and maintenance.
• Impacts on cabin air quality in commercial aircraft.
• Impacts on the health of exposed individuals.
• Legal impacts.
• Framing the national reality.
• Discussion on possible mitigations and solutions.

Speakers

"Aircraft Cabin Air Contamination Events – An Engineering View"
Discussion about the Engineering behind the pressurized cabin air, possible pathways for oil leakage into the cabin, maintenance troubleshooting and decontamination procedures.

"Scientific Evidence on Aircraft Fume Events: From Exposure Assessment to Health Outcomes"
This presentation is going to be focused on the current scientific evidence on aircraft fume events, covering topics from air‑quality monitoring to biomonitoring studies and the associated health consequences.

"Fume Events in Aviation Crew: From Aerotoxic Syndrome to Clinical Recognition — Current knowledge and Future Directions"
This presentation aims to introduce the topic of fume events and their diagnostic challenges, given the often-nonspecific clinical picture that makes this a complex and underrecognized diagnosis.

“Aerotoxic Syndrome in a Pilot Following Aircraft Acute Fume Exposure: The First Case Report in Portugal”
The presentation will focus on a clinical case report of a Portuguese pilot who developed symptoms consistent with aerotoxic syndrome after exposure to a fume event during a commercial flight. The circumstances of the event, the symptomatic evolution, and the diagnostic investigation process will be addressed.

“Organophosphate poisoning in modern times: from agriculture to aviation – a series of cases”
Starting from the transition from the classic agricultural scenario to the emerging context of aviation, a presentation will be delivered focusing on the description and analysis of cases of pilots and cabin crew in Portugal exposed to fume events, as well as the evaluation of associated symptomatology.

“Acute and chronic effects of fumes exposure on commercial aviation pilots, crew and passengers”
Fume exposure in commercial aviation is a persistent safety risk that remains underreported due to the lack of a standardized diagnostic vocabulary. To be recognized, an event must first be identifiable. This presentation introduces a systematic clinical approach to organizing the signs and symptoms associated with pyrolyzed engine oil exposure.

“Clinical response and follow-up protocols for crew members exposed to fume events in aviation”
The presentation will address the emergency department evaluation of pilots, cabin crew and passengers exposed to fume events, focusing on the description of clinical presentations, associated symptomatology, and the challenges in diagnostic and management. This discussion is framed within an ongoing project aimed at improving the clinical approach to these patients.

"Legal implications of fume events: occupational health recognitions and court decisions in France"
Building on the relentless work of French AVSA – Association des Victimes du Syndrome Aérotoxique – Capt. Eric Bailet will pass along valuable insights on the legal undertakings for the recognition of harm suffered by crew members due to fume events. Matters of occupational health and safety obligations, workplace accidents, occupational disease recognition will be discussed. The successful litigations in France will be highlighted as a pathway for prevention and mitigation, targeting improved European standards for crew health and aviation safety.

“Beyond Subjectivity - Evidence Based Cabin Air Quality Oversight”
The Portuguese CAA will deliver a presentation focusing on fume event reports and follow-up actions.

“Beyond Subjectivity - Evidence Based Cabin Air Quality Oversight”
The Portuguese CAA will deliver a presentation focusing on fume event reports and follow-up actions.

"Managing Odor and Fumes Events in TAP Fleet - A Maintenance Approach"
The presentation will focus on TAP's Maintenance & Engineering approach to Cabin Air Quality, through data analysis and preventive actions.
